Abstract
This paper presents the information concerning the symptoms, the underlying cognitive processes, the diagnosis and the rehabilitation procedures related to developmental dyscalculia. Starting with a critical analysis of the ICD-10 and DSM-IV diagnostic recommendations, we offer a review of the cognitive theories related to the development of arithmetic skills and of the interpretative models of developmental dyscalculia. We also present the evaluation instruments at disposal in Italy and their characteristics to define dyscalculia and the intervention approaches after a brief review of related studies.
