Psychopathological problems in university students with dyslexia

Abstract

Dyslexia is a disorder that persists throughout a lifetime and may cause severe difficulties in everyday life to all adults, and contribute to experiment several negative experiences. The objective of the present research was to investigate the consequences of the disorder in university students with dyslexia compared with matched controls, in terms of psychopathological problems, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem . Results showed that there are psychological consequences in students with dyslexia: in particular, in addition to the well-known persistent difficulties in reading and writing students with dyslexia present more symptoms of depression, inattention and psychophysiological manifestation than controls, that affect the quality of their daily life.
