Abstract
The new DSM-5 diagnostic category of Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder is critically discussed. Studies of children with pragmatic language impairment are reviewed to focus on conversational, inferential and narrative symptoms. The functional assessment pragmatics is proposed in light of the availability of norms in the Italian population and with respect to the differential diagnosis process. Finally, an overview of theoretical and clinical models for the rehabilitation planning is presented.
