Abstract
The paper focuses on the category of the delinquent soldier and his clinic and social construction in the liberal Italian state. Moreover it deals with the history of mental disorder treatment policies and control strategies of anormality in lunatic soldiers. In particular, it focuses on the forms of discipline represented by asylum, the behavior and the knowledge of alienists and the diagnoses adopted on neurotic soldiers. This research in particular considers the case of nervously ill soldiers interned in the asylum of Racconigi, in the province of Cuneo, between 1909 and 1914.
