Abstract

Over the last few decades the ‘history of emotions’ has been at the centre of a fruitful debate, still ongoing, which has been enriched by a growing number of studies and approaches. Starting from the first reflections of Lucien Febvre, which provided a first impetus to these studies, and paying particular attention to the dimensions of uncertainty and fear, this review intends to reconstruct, from a comparative perspective, the evolution of the literature on this topic. The goal is to capture the main past and future lines of evolution of a growing field of study that has been influenced by different disciplines and which is playing an increasing role in the historiographical field.
