Abstract
The Longinian technique that Erich Auerbach applied to Dante’s Inferno (9.65-72) is not the only possibility of using the Peri hypsous to reconstruct the sublime poetics of the Divine Comedy. But a hasty and superficial reading of Longinus’ treatise did not allow Auerbach to broaden the range of affinities between Dante and Longinus.
