Abstract

On the Representation of the Saint and the Hero Starting from Nancy, Rossellini and Beauvois. Is it possible to represent a holy matter, such as the story of Saint Francis of Assisi? This is the question this essay intends to answer. In fact contemporary system of media is deeply influenced by the developing of consumerism and spectacularization, and it seems impossible to represent a holy character without transforming him into a media hero or in a folk figure. The essay reflects on this theme in dialogue with J.-L. Nancy, analyzing "Francesco giullare di Dio" by Rossellini and "Des hommes et des dieux" by Beauvois.
