Abstract
The paper deals with the main methodological issues related to manuscript texts. Specifically, the paper focuses on the representation of authorial variants in critical Edition. The different approaches that converge in authorial philology are considered in relation to a specific case study, chat of Giuseppe Ungaretti's "Il Dolore": the author, after describing the features of the manuscripts in Ungaretti's archive and discussing methodological choices, traces a flexible method, which should aim to consider the specificity of the author's work. The paper also proposes some examples of variants representation, showing the links between style and poetics, where even the 'waste' are an active part of text's history.
