Abstract
In this study about contingent work we examined job characteristics on two representational outcomes: flexibility causal attribution and attitudes toward future. The group of workers considered consisted of 248 contingent workers (64% women) and data were collected by a survey. Results showed that if participants describe their work in positive terms (e.g., economic incomes, development opportunities, clear work definition/support from the union), they attribute the use of contingent work to organizational needs of an adequate employees work entry and development and they show a more dynamic attitude toward future. Work satisfaction acted as mediator in these relationships.
