Abstract
This study examines, in 10 Italian small and medium enterprises, whether psycho-social and organizational variables are related to innovation and if such variables allow to distinguish between more and less innovative firms. Company owners reported subjective and objective measures of organizational innovation while 158 employees assessed psycho-social dimensions and organizational innovativeness. T-test does not show any difference between companies that adopted more and less innovations. However, individual, job, group and organizational characteristics predict the level of enterprises' innovativeness.
