Abstract
The discovery of the therapeutic value of umbilical cord blood has led to new medical perspectives. However, it has also led to the need for legal regulation. Science univocally recommends the donation of cord blood to third parties, while states have made different choices. This contribution provides for an overview of this topic, which is an example of the relationship between individual liberty, solidarity and science
