Abstract
The article offers an overview of the contributions in the first twenty-five years of the journals DPCE and DPCE online devoted to African law. The article discusses the complexity of the concept of African law(s) following some contribtuons devoted to methodological issues. Then it moves to the analysis of the main research lines and research output formats, which are mainly essays and features. Then again the focus is on the most studied legal systems, the Southafrican and the ones belonging to the Maghreb area. Finally, some conclusions are drawn with respect to the challenges that studies on African law still have to face.
