Abstract

This contribution deals with the way in which prophecy is represented in the last chapters of 2 Kings/4 Kingdoms (in particular under Hezekiah and Josiah) in the Masoretic text, compared to Codex Vaticanus and the Lucianic/ Antiochiene recension. The biblical text shows a gradual decrease in the role of the prophets (despite the great oracle of the prophetess Huldah) in favour of the “bookµ. In 2 Kgs 18-25, the “bookµ replaces the institutions, that is to say, not only prophecy but also the House of the Lord and priesthood. This minimisation of prophecy is accentuated in the Greek text, especially in the Antiochene text in 4 Kgdms 21:13
