Abstract

The chief objective of this paper is to consider the publication: “Il Credo commentato dai Padriµ (5 vols., Roma, Città Nuova, 2020-2022) in the light of how the early Christians employed philosophical tradition in their understanding of the Scriptures and theological speculation. In this respect, this paper will focus on two main philosophical categories which were used by the Church Fathers in the elaboration of the doctrine, namely, causality and relation, and it will refer to some of texts which are collected in the publication and which include the application of these categories. The paper intends to prove not only that the early Christians incorporated philosophical ideas in their reflection, but also that they contributed to an original reformulation of them.
