Abstract

This article discusses some recent books dedicated to the relationship between Catholics and political violence in order to assess new historiographical trends and the most innovative research perspectives. The publications examined reveal the lively debate on these issues, the investigation of often unexplored sources, the proposal of new interpretations and the possibilities of fruitful comparisons with international historiography. Recent research considers the transnational dimension of the relationship between Catholics and violence, particularly in the struggle against Nazi-Fascism. Studies on the Italian case also question simplifying readings of the presence of Catholics in the Resistance and bring out the multiplicity of motivations and ambivalences of the anti-fascist struggle
