Abstract

The official opening of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute for Advanced Theological Studies of Jerusalem (1972) was the fulfilment of the ecumenical dream of Paul VI, that the pope dreamed during Vatican Council II and his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1964 and built in a decade thanks to men and institutions working for Christian unity in the Sixties and the Seventies. The article aims to shed light on the history of the aforementioned Institute, examining published as well as unpublished sources coming from Jerusalem (Tantur Ecumenical Institute archive), Geneva (World Council of Churches archive), Milan (Carlo Colombo archive), Basel (Oscar Cullmann Archive), Bologna (Pierre Duprey Archive) and Montserrat (Monastery Archive).
