Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the history of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy within the context of the development of higher education in Ukraine in the 17th and 18th century. It highlights the European nature of the institution and its importance in forming a new breed of intellectual fitted into European culture, but who also preserved their national identity. In addition, it provides examples illustrating the character and level of research conducted by the Academy and presents some of the most noted personages who gave a strong impetus to the building and establishment of the nation. The study aims to broaden knowledge of the history of Ukrainian culture, its originality and features that tie it to and unite it with common European culture.
