Abstract

Gomes of Lisbon (Gometius Ulixbonensis, Cometius Hispanus Portugalensis) was one of the most important representatives of Scotism in the Italian Renaissance. Both as professor of Theology and Metaphysics at the University of Pavia and as General Vicar of the Friars Minor, his life and works constitute an important source to understand his period. With this article, it is intended to update what is known about his life and works: the first chapter is dedicated to his life, the second to each of his works and the third recollects testemonies of his contemporaries (Henrique Caiado, Ermolao Barbaro, Luca Pacioli, among others). It finishes with a cronology to systematize all the information. The new gathered data confirm that his figure is well documented and his works, especially the Scriptum super Quaestiones Metaphysicae Antonii Andreae, should be given the attention they deserve.
