Abstract

In this paper it will be argued that personal identity does not consist entirely in narrative practices, whether of a social or introspective kind. Although narratives are very popular in many fields of investigation, their role in characterizing the sort of personal identity human beings are endowed with is highly overestimated. The paper will take into consideration the alternative perspective of Galen Strawson, which is based on the role of episodes, instead of stories. I will argue for a more radical alternative, grounded in the role of non-conceptual experiences.
