Abstract
This paper examines Descartes’ Cogito in Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics. It recalls some outstanding passages, mostly from Ricoeur’s works of the 1960s, in which the Cogito is variously outlined in terms of an expropriated, “woundedµ subjectivity, which does not possess itself in a certain and immediate way, but is constantly searching for itself. In this way we wish to bring out an intrinsic and multifaceted relationship between Cogito and interpretation, reflection and hermeneutics, which are indeed both distinct and intrinsically connected.
