Abstract

The article offers a summary of new investigations of documents in the Vienna War Archives on the background of Wittgenstein’s life in the First World War. New insights from these records mainly concern the first half of 1915, when Wittgenstein was deployed behind the front as an engineer in an artillery workshop in Kraków. In addition to the known biographies, not only can a more detailed picture of his life circumstances be drawn and related to his personal diary entries, but indications can also be found that Wittgenstein was significantly involved in the technical development and construction of so-called artillery workshop trains
