Abstract

The contribution provides the first liturgical edition of two ordines ad recludendum, found in two manuscripts in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. The first is a fourteenth-century pontifical according to the use of Soissons, ms. BAV, Ross. 234; the second is a pontifical from the thirteenth century, ms. BAV, Borgh. 14, used first in Dubrovnik and then in Riga. The edition is accompanied by a codicological and liturgical survey of the codices attempting to reconstruct the place of their production and use, in order to explore historical questions with respect to the context and establish whether any ties can be found between these ordines and the phenomenon of urban reclusion in a central Italian environment.
