Abstract
This article analyses the relationship between Italians and foreign policy. The main themes that will be discussed are political communication, populism, mass media and public opinion. The comparison with news from across Europe sheds light on the difficulty of Italian news programmes in dealing with and presenting the key issues raised by globalization, whilst the Italian public seems to show a growing attention to international news on Tv. These factors have allowed some populist leaders to exploit foreign policy to their benefit
