Abstract
According to a post-totalitarian understanding of human dignity, the uniqueness of each human being emerges as its radical principle of determination. The paper offers a close reading of La Boétie's Discourse on Voluntary Servitude (1548) as a historical and philosophical reference of a claim to defend human dignity as self-determination of each unique human being.
