Abstract

We know of nine inscriptions mentioning Hispanics inscribed in the Pomptine tribe, which was not used as a prevalent tribe in the Iberian Peninsula and whose presence outside Italy is very scarce. It is a homogeneous group in terms of chronology, since all the epigraphs are dated between the second half of the 1st and the middle of the 2nd century AD; the activity of the protagonists, since they are all military men; and the cities of origin, since almost all these Hispanics came from communities located in the north and northwest of the Peninsula. In this work we propose to compile and study the inscriptions of these Hispanics who belonged to the Pomptine tribe and to present the main hypotheses put forward so far by historiography in an attempt to explain this circumstance
