Abstract
This inscription (AEp 1980, 51) has been found in the Mithraeum of Santo Stefano Rotondo in Rome (in the 70s of the last century). It is a votive altar consecrated by a freedwoman called Cascel(l)ia to a not-known deity, defined “Dominus aeternusµ. Since the very moment of its finding, a debate has arisen about the identification of this god. The main publication, dating back to more than fifty years ago, tend to bring it into a Mithraic context. In this paper a Christian interpretation is envisaged, on the basis of other sources or the known ones, here differently interpreted.
