Abstract
The Vago Filogeo by the Venetian Sabello Michiel, a collection of love letters in prose and verse with mythological inspiration accompanied by a commentary, still lacks a critical edition. This paper announces the upcoming edition, providing the first comprehensive description of the manuscript tradition and presenting a series of new insights. The author’s profile is reconstructed through the discovery of new archival documents, and a more precise dating of the work is proposed, placing its composition around the 1370s. Furthermore, the commentary is attributed to Michiel himself, and its essential role in interpreting the letters is stressed as a constitutive function within the work’s overall structure.
