Abstract
The inventories of the castle library in Pavia, compiled between 1426 and 1491, include several compositions commemorating festivals, ceremonies, and public performances. The unpublished texts by Lodrisio Crivelli, Giovanni Luigi Guidoboni, Bonino Mombrizio, and Giovanni Luigi Toscani are used here to study a scarcely known period of the Milanese performance culture, the age of Francesco I (1450-1466), and how the first Sforza duke employed fests, spectacles, and their descriptions to promote his image as a ruler
