Abstract
This essay analyzes a letter of Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini commonly known as the Somnium de fortuna with the aim of deepening our awareness of his use of dialogue and personae as the prime modality of understanding. The letter is placed in context of letters Piccolomini sent immediately beforehand and afterwards, as well as in relation to other humanist treatments of Fortune, in order to highlight the dynamic, intersubjective qualities of his epistolographic humanism.
