Abstract
In early 1452 Emperor Frederick III went to Italy to receive the imperial crown from the hands of Pope Nicholas V. On that occasion the Florentine government entrusted Giannozzo Manetti with many important tasks pertaining to the emperor’s visit. Among other things, the famous humanist was expected to accompany the emperor down to Rome and write an official speech for his coronation. This essay publishes that text on the basis of all the extant manuscripts and the two previous editions, which were printed in 1614 and 1717
