Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to reconsider the relationship between Lorenzo Valla and Leonardo Bruni through the analysis of the different ways in which the two humanists intertwine the use of Aelius Aristides’ Panathenaicus and In praise of Rome. Specifically, our objective is to show how these texts of the Greek rhetorician become crucial for Valla and Bruni in order to propose two radically alternative ideas of the relationship between the Latin language and the Roman Empire.
