Abstract
The contribution offers a status quaestionis of the MS tradition of Ausonius as it developed in Northern Italy and especially Verona. New witnesses are identified (outstanding among them is Hannover XLII 1845), described and used to draw an up-to-date stemma, where the importance of Harley MS 2613 and Avanzi’s printed edition of 1507 is confirmed. At least two ancient MSS containing Ausonius are shown to have been present in Verona during the 14th century. MS Par. Lat. 8500, even though part of Petrarch’s library, is not the codex he used as a source for his ‘Rerum memorandarum libri’. Besides, Ausonius MSS listed in the early medieval Bobbio library catalogue are not identifiable (and not akin to any known MS) and so far, even supposing that one of them was discovered in the 15th century, no trace appears that it has been used.
