Abstract
MSS Vat. lat. 5990 and Padua, Bibl. Univ. 1084, offer evidence in the ‘recollecte’ without a title of the same lecture course on Vergil. Hitherto they have been thought to be the product of lectures by Zono da Magnalis, a Tuscan teacher active in the 1330s, because of the inclusion of some exegetical material shared with the ‘accessus’ of either the ‘recollecte’ in question or the ‘Expositio’ of the ‘Aeneid’ by Zono. A detailed inquiry, however, has brought to light some facts which allow a different attribution of the ‘recollecte’. Features of style, various types of reference and citation and mentions by other authors allow us to recognise in these texts the commentaries on Vergil by Giovanni del Virgilio, the famous ‘magister’ and correspondent of Dante.
