Abstract

Reopening the dossier of a famous codicological and palaeographical inquiry conducted some 40 years ago by Philippe Hoffmann, the present contribution draws the attention of the reader to the work of a mysterious and prolific copyist, known to the experts as the ‘Anonymus Harvardianus’ and recognised as a member of Aldus’ circle. A fresh examination of the evidence from palaeography, codicology, philology and documentary sources answers some of the principal questions raised by the books copied by this scribe, leading to the identification of him as Alessandro Bondino
