Abstract

Some witnesses of Benvenuto da Imola’s commentary on Valerius Maximus offer a version that is partly or wholly different from the two already known (‘Recollecte’ and ‘Expositio’). This article brings up to date the list of the witnesses of the third version and shows that it is interpolated, being based on the ‘Recollecte’ of Benvenuto and the commentary by Dionigi of Borgo San Sepolcro. MS Venice, Correr 855, a commentary attributed to Giovanni Conversini, is in reality a copy of the interpolated version, which cannot be the work of Benvenuto or Conversini. It was put together in fact by a certain ‘Lodovicus’, perhaps Ludovico Buzzacarini of Padua
