Abstract
Among the several sources Benvenuto da Imola used in his commentary on the ‘Comedy’, the works of Giovanni Boccaccio hold a significant place. This study examines some potential convergences between Boccaccio’s texts and Benvenuto’s ‘Comentum’, while also highlighting the challenges in achieving a definitive reconstruction of their intertextual relationships. The analysis focuses particularly on the glosses concerning Venus in ‘Par.’ viii and on two Dantean similes in ‘Inf.’ xvi. For the latter, exegetical comparisons are offered with the ‘Monarchia’ and the bucolic exchange occurred between Dante and Giovanni del Virgilio.
