Abstract
This paper addresses the question whether a continuum exists between Italian and Italoromance dialects. Since the structural distance from the standard language varies considerably with respect to different areas, some contexts are expected to be analysed in terms of a continuum, while others are not. In order to depict some significant sociolinguistic situations, P. Auer’s model of diaglossia is employed; five distinct types of repertoire are thus identified, three of which implying a continuity between Italian and Italoromance dialects.
