Abstract
According to Henri de Lubac, the exegesis of Joachim of Fiore introduces a radical hermeneutical innovation with respect to traditional exegesis, the understanding of which is essential to interpret the meaning and scope of the so-called spiritual posterity of the Calabrian abbot. Considering his major work in this respect, "The Spiritual Posterity of Joachim of Fiore", and other Lubacian works related to this topic, such as Medieval Exegesis, our study offers a synthesis of Lubacian discernment regarding Joachimite exegesis. In this respect, two main areas of questions are explored: on the one hand, the global framework of medieval exegesis, as well as the bibliographical origin of "The Spiritual Posterity"; on the other hand, the contrast of Joachim’s exegesis with the medieval tradition. Through this approach, the importance that the Calabrian abbot attached to the book of Revelation, the foundations of his conception of the third status and of what he called the "eternal "Gospel", and the ultimate implications of his exegetical principle of concord are revealed.
