Abstract

This paper proposes a reflection on the relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human freedom starting from the message published by Pope Francis on the LVII World Day of Peace celebrated on 1 January 2024: here, Pope Francis addresses a call to humanise AI by putting it at the service of the interal experience of human beings. In particular, the concern of Pope Francis regards the issue of personal freedom seriously endangered by the pervasiveness of AI. Addressing the whole of humanity, the Holy Father directly challenges with his appeal the believing thinker called to interpret the contemporary world by pointing out how the progress of science and technology can be a way to peace to the extent that it is at the service of the full enhancement of the human being.
