Abstract
The paper studies the Calvino's theories on translation and "translatability" of literary texts, analyzing the critical essays of the author. The theme is put into connection, on the one side, with the positions expressed in the Lezioni americane, in some articles dedicated to Italian and vernacular language and in several book reviews published in newspapers, such as "Corriere della Sera" e "la Repubblica"; on the other side, with the correspondence that Calvino held, over time, with his translators, in agreement with the spreading of his fame abroad.
