Abstract
The contribution compares two different types of writing, reviewing, on the one hand, the dispatches written by Machiavelli and sent to the Florentine Chancellery, on the other hand, the Treaty on the principalities. It aims to highlight the literary nature of 'The Prince', as shown by the figure of Cesare Borgia, an example of extraordinary virtue perfectly constructed within the complex Chapter VII.
