Abstract
This essay deals with the issue of Calvino's "distancing", from the beginning of his career as a writer to the short stories of "Mr. Palomar". It emphasizes that the act of distancing has as its counterpart the necessity of filling the distance, coinciding practically with the writer's attempt to rationalize his relation with reality, both personal and social. In particular, it analyzes the distancing from the writer's parents, from himself, the models, symbols and signs. The attempts of directly rationalize the "id" are also analyzed.
