Abstract
Antonietta Raphaël (1895-1975), Lithuanian artist naturalized Italian, made a two-months trip in China in 1956. This article briefly frames the journey in the historical and political context of those years and, using the personal diaries and some letters as sources, traces the stages of the journey, the emotions and the artistic production that ensued and that was exhibited in Italy immediately after in the same 1956, with comments, among others, by Cesare Brandi and Alberto Moravia
