Abstract
While materials for German as a foreign language prior to and after the era of National Socialism are well documented, the years 1933-1945 appear largely neglected. This gap is addressed in an ongoing research project, that examines German teaching and learning materials in Italy based on a still growing corpus. Against the historical background of political and language didactical developments and with criteria from textbook analysis, the research is focussed on potential influences of Fascism and National Socialism visible in the corpus examples. This contribution presents two case studies that highlight the diversity regarding target groups, adapted methods and thematic contents found within the published teaching and learning materials of that period
