Abstract
The article attempts to analyse the mythological figures in the so-called "Walpurgisnacht" in Goethe's Faust II and their reciprocal interaction with - as well as their relationship to - the four elements. Taking as a point of departure the evident predominance of the figure of water, it is demonstrated, however, that Goethe (through the figure of the other elements - primarily fire) emphasizes the unity of creation and simultaneously aims to make apparent the levels of being, which man does not always perceive - in the first place that of the Divine which manifests itself in nature.
