Abstract
The reflection on the Tragic plays a key role in the thought of Alberto Savino and leads the entire development of his intellectual and artistic career. Not only Savino examines several times the aesthetic and philosophical categories of «dramma» and «tragedia» - starting from the analysis of Greek tragedy, and involving the reading of Vico, Leopardi, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Spengler and Freud - but these categories also become fundamental elements of a personal "poiesis", which over the years is continually reshaping itself: from metaphysical art, which at the time of "Valori plastici" is regarded as the only form of art capable of reviving the «spirito tragico» of the Greeks, until the «arte intellettualistica» of his last period, which he expresses with the formula of «tragedia euripidea». The investigation into the Tragic joins the desire to provide a general interpretation of Greek culture and offers a key to understanding the classicism of Savino.
