Abstract
In this short piece Mariangela discusses a 2012 Italian TV series in which literary classics are parodied and re-told, with an eye to teen audiences. Among the four classics is "Romeo and Juliet", a retelling of the tragedy which includes allusions to contemporary Italian mores and politics, and plays with regional characterisation and accents. The (relative) lack of success of the series can help us gauge our expectations and reactions "vis-à-vis" an Elizabethan classic.
