Abstract

%e roman district of Città Giardino Aniene (Aniene Garden City), built in the early Twenties, represents an interesting experiment of urban planning. Its construction occurred in a period where the new Municipal Plan (1909) was stuck due to the high cost of the building land, so a decision was made to group all the building programs of the cooperatives of State employees far from the city centre, outside the Plan boundary, in the proximity to the tu" quarries and linking it to the city centre with a new tram line. %e Urban Plan of the new garden city was carried out by Gustavo Giovannoni and it was made up mainly of small houses placed along bended roads which follows organically the site topography while the intensive buildings are built near the main place, Piazza Sempione. All the buildings, many of which still exist, present an interesting “regional styleµ with the use of local forms and materials
