Abstract
The paper introduces a misunderstood painting preserved in the Carmelite church in Taranto: it depicts Saint Elijah and the Prophets of Baal. The research, supported by several documents – closely connected to the Carmelite order – aims to analyze the unconventional iconography and style, that allows to attribute the painting to Girolamo Imperato. Such reference to the Neapolitan painter brings new evidence about his activity in Terra d’Otranto.
