Abstract

The presentation of the issue on the Nemi Ships and their context, by the General Director of Museums, highlights the specific character of the Museum of Roman Ships, designed by Vittorio Morpurgo in the 1930s, and the loss of its original meaning after the devastating fire of 1944. It is to the possible recovery of this meaning that the ongoing activities of the Ministry of Culture and those of the recently established ‘Documentation and Study Centre’, promoted by a wide range of public and private institutions, are now dedicated, guaranteeing a concrete interdisciplinary approach. The article highlights the importance of collaboration between different professionals when applied to a specific context and describes its potential for the programs of planned maintenance, enhancement and improvement of museum accessibility
